Today we know the day (July 14) or begin the bailout of the Costa Concordia, although the monitoring observatory will study the latest documents of the trials of any refloating systems and security systems to the last minute.

For cons, the departure date is still not fixed, and maybe we will know that the day before leaving for the island of Giglio weather conditions require.

This is confirmed today that it has long been known is that the convoy and its course will not happen with discretion. Dozens of boats will follow the convoy to Genoa (It) outside boats consortium Titan / Micoperi who will be in charge of cleaning products and materials that would escape the Costa Concordia.

So dozens of other boats, which will be embedded, of marine biology experts who will be in charge of monitoring the sanctuary of cetaceans and report any passing dolphins or whales. There will also be ships of Coast Guard, many media are beginning to register on the site parbuckling The Project for accreditation, environmental groups such as Greenpeace, the curious tourists rides on yachts, etc. . Not to mention the monitoring and media helicopters, civil and military satellites.

Note the the last voyage of the Costa Concordia will not go unnoticed, even the most prestigious ships in the world that are parties to the case as the Norway (ex-France) or the aircraft carrier Clemenceau, have not experienced a such enthusiasm and such a procession to visit the place of their dismantling.

Wednesday, July 9, 2014, the bailout in question :

Here's how the boxes will they be emptied of water found in and replaced with air to refloat the Costa Concordia.

Individual pneumatic diaphragm pump is installed on each housing, it is driven by compressed air. Inside each pump is two membranes connected by a shaft, they will be pulled and driven alternately by an air distributor, and each displacement of one of the two membranes from right to left, water will be sucked from the chamber to be discharged upwards.

Gradually, as the water will be discharged from the box the latter will automatically fill with air and become lighter and the air pressure increases inside give a pushed upwards and as for a balloon we immergerait in water and that it would release the box rise to the surface, but the big difference is that the water will be discharged slowly to avoid too violent rise and thereby pressure too strong on the Costa Concordia structure.

Pumps will be divided into two areas 15, the front (bow) of the ship and the rear portion (stern). They will be controlled by a sophisticated computer system that will be located inside the command post. They will have the same rate of suction and discharge, allowing a straight bailout from the back of the Costa Concordia and then forward.

Two drive systems are available, an electric system and a diesel system, will be placed in backup system to prevent the risk of failure on one of the two systems.

All electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and pump are on the Costa Concordia, ditto for the command post where bailout operations will be managed.

Tuesday, July 8, 2014, "GO" for the bailout :

The Monitoring Centre has given the green light for the bailout of the Costa Concordia. The latest tests on electric and pneumatic systems are continuing. July 14 will begin on refloating the vessel, as the rotation command post will be set up, but this time it will be on the upper deck of the Costa Concordia. Nick Sloane will be there again at the controls.

For the first step which will last about two days, the Costa Concordia will bail out to a height of 2m, then it will move to tugboats 30m to the east of the island of Giglio. Then the second step is to refloat the deck 6 to deck 3, before leaving for the port of Genoa scheduled to July 20.

The bailout begins with the stern (rear) of the ship, and then will come the recovery of the bow (front). Costa Cruises and Titan consortium / Micoperi still studying the various technical problems that can meet the worst case scenario for them would be that in the first part of the bailout, the mean time to bail out the stern, the Costa Concordia slides and dark in a depth of 100m. A disaster scenario that no one wants to see.

The Minister of the Environment Italian Gianluca Galletti said it would be on site for this major operation ever conducted for a vessel of this size. He said "I will be there and I will be inflexible policeman ! "

Monday, July 7, 2014, another meeting tomorrow, Tuesday :

The Monitoring Centre, which met today in Florence (It) has reviewed the documents and procedures for the bailout and towing the Costa Concordia, Costa Cruises and supplied by Titan / Micoperi.

For the president Maria SARGENTINI, it remains to verify certain aspects of operations, details that would make an accurate monitoring of the bailout and towing procedure as for the turnaround last September. Must be developed constant exchange of information between the services involved in the operation of the withdrawal of the vessel.

The Observatory is waiting for more information from the Titan / Micoperi consortium and Costa Cruises, and able to receive the full documentation to give its final conclusions.

The president also wants to have all the guarantees that Costa Cruises and Titan / Micoperi consortium will restore the marine environment as before the accident and they will remove the platforms, the 11 laps inking and hundreds of mortar bags artificial floor that served to recovery and supports the Costa Concordia, and that immediately after the departure of the island of Giglio ship.

Tomorrow Tuesday, July 8 a new meeting will be held in Florence (It) with heads of coastguard to monitor the final operation.

The magistrates agreed Friday, July 4, the application by the lawyers of Costa Cruises to lift the seizure on the Costa Concordia and this so that the ship can be refloated, towed and dismantled in Genoa. The CODACONS association and lawyers Francesco SCHETTINO had opposed this restitution, because for them the technical investigation is not over, specifically the resistance of watertight doors in water. The court did not follow this request and returned the Costa Concordia owner Costa Cruises. Nothing now prevents the ship from leaving the island of Giglio in the coming days.

Thursday, July 3, 2014, press release, Costa Cruises and Titan / Micoperi :

All boxes are now installed. The technicians will be able to begin testing all systems before bailing out of the wreckage.

The installation of the last boxe P1 on the port side of the wreck of the Costa Concordia cruise ship was carried out as planned this afternoon. Now, before the authorization of the Observatory, technicians can begin testing all systems for the ultimate bailout Concordia.

"After installing the last box, we can begin the countdown to the bailout and final departure of the wreck of the island of Giglio". Said the CEO of Costa Cruises Michael Thamm. "Now all our energies are focused on the conclusion of this unprecedented technical challenge to meet a specific commitment, Concordia wreck removal as soon as possible, in compliance with environmental standards and the highest security."

A total of 30 boxes were positioned on both sides of Concordia. When the operation starts bailout, the boxes will be gradually emptied of ballast water by means of a pneumatic system providing the necessary buoyancy to refloat the wreck. At the end of this operation, the wreck will have a water line approximately "18.5 meters". Concordia will then leave the island of Giglio and be supported in Genoa, for dismantling and recycling.

The Parbuckling project.

Thursday, July 3, 2014, the Italian court must return the Concordia Costa Cruises before:
If we now know the port dismantling of the Costa Concordia, "Genoa", although the president of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi, seems unwilling to give up the idea of bringing the Costa Concordia in Piombino (It). He raised again the government and its president Matteo RENZI, brandishing the risks of towing in Genoa (It) and blocking this departure, that the port of Piombino will in the coming months dismantling larger ships of the Italian Navy.

Yes, but the port of Piombino is still not operational, and will not be until September if all goes well, the risk of leaving one more year in the Costa Concordia Giglio is unthinkable for the people of the Giglio and its elected.

But in all this controversy, a detail has been forgotten, that the Costa Concordia is still under the Court's entry of Grosseto (It), in the trial of Francesco SCHETTINO, former commander of the ship. As the Grosseto court not restore this centerpiece of the trial to Costa Cruises, the Costa Concordia will not be dismantled, worst he could stay at Giglio... !!

Costa Cruise's lawyers say that it takes the action of the trial and especially the technical audiences that have yet to take place.

Two possibilities can be envisaged today, the first judges give permission to tow the Costa Concordia in Genoa with the risk (in case of new shipwreck) losing proof of the shipwreck and the exact reasons for the shipwreck, and a defect of form put forward by the defense Francesco SCHETTINO. As against the tow would not mean the full or partial dismantling of the ship in the coming weeks and that pending the end of legal proceedings and future technical investigations.

The second possibility, the magistrates refused restitution and departure from the island of Giglio Costa Concordia, and here the chances of Piombino can be reviewed by the Italian government, and that if the ship had to stay on the island of Giglio in -delà of 8 August, deadline of the weather window given by the experts.

In the first, the port of Genoa Voltri is preparing to receive construction and ship dismantling activities, including dismantling furniture and interiors on bridges over water. In the second phase, the wreck will be transferred from the Voltri Breakwater on the pier "Molo Ex Superbacino" where the bridge structures 14-2, will be dismantled. The third phase will consist of preparatory activities for the transfer of the wreck in the dry dock 4: At this point, the floats will be removed and places of food storage and cooling chambers of the bridge will be cleaned 0. In the fourth and final phase, operations will be carried out in separate area of the Drydock 4, with the complete dismantling of the wreck removal of the other interior fittings, cleaning different areas and the final demolition of all structures remaining. This phase will end by appropriate treatment, disposal and recycling of discarded materials.

The removal project at Concordia wreck.

Removal of the Concordia wreck is a technical engineering feat extremely complex - considered the largest rescue ever performed on a ship of this size - with the deployment of the best international experts, the state-of-the-art technology and unprecedented financial resources.

Project priorities were clear from the start: the environmental, safety and protection of the island and the socio-economic fabric of Giglio, place the site.

Friday, June 27, 2014, the Concordia will not spend another winter in Giglio :
Franco Gabrielli, head of the Civil Protection and the Government Commissioner for the withdrawal of the Costa Concordia told residents of Giglio island that the Concordia could not spend another winter on the island of Giglio : "Today we await the green light from the Council of Ministers and the Observatory to remove the ship on 20 July. the ship can not spend another winter, he can not stand is the problem. the only solution is possible things and desirable, Genoa ship moving with a favorable window that goes from 13 July to 8 August. This is the period where there is statistically more favorable weather conditions. the departure of the vessel must be in continuity with the bailout as indicated by the government's decision. "

Friday, June 27, 2014, press release Costa Cruises :
A meeting with the population took place last Thursday, June 26 at the island of Giglio. The commissioner for emergency Concordia Franco Gabrielli, the project coordinator for the elimination of Concordia Porcellacchia Franco, and the CFO of Costa Cruises Beniamino Maltese, with the presence of Mayor Sergio Ortelli, debated on the state operations afloat and explained the rehabilitation phase. The first of four last lateral floats port (P14) is now being installed. Once the float installation phase will be completed, technicians will begin to test the systems and then proceed to the final phase of the project: Concordia bailout in mid-July.

The rescue operation will be divided into four phases :

Phase 1 : partial bailout and movement of the wreck. The first day the ship will be replenished about 2 meters and towed about 30 meters to the east. This phase will last about 6 hours, during which navigation is prohibited. At the end of this phase, the wreck will be stabilized and held in position by tugboats.

Phase 2 : connection and tension of the last four channels and 7 cables and final positioning of some of the starboard float. This phase will last about 2 days.

Phase 3 : bailout. The water will be drained from the inside floats by step, a bridge at a time, from the deck to the bridge 6 3 where the wreck reaches its final position bailout (Photo below).

Phase 4 : Final departure maneuvers. The wreck will be connected and pulled by tugs, and after final checks, maneuvers to depart from the island will begin. During this phase, port traffic will be suspended for about 4 hours to allow the transactions to take place safely. At this stage the wreck, and all other ships of the convoy will depart from the island.

Thursday, June 26, 2014, press release Costa Cruises :
Costa Cruises : Our goal is the success of the Concordia project.
In three weeks, technicians will be ready to tow the wreck.
Transport and dismantling of the wreck in Genoa are the only valid solution in Italy.
The positive technical assessments expressed by the public authorities 17 total de19 in the Conference of services reassured about the validity of our choice.

Rome, 25 June 2014 - The last meeting of the Conference of Services was held yesterday in Rome, Costa Cruises reaffirms the motivations for choosing to carry Concordia wreck in Genoa for dismantling and recycling. Genoa is the only Italian port in which the activities of demolition and recycling can start immediately and can count on the best technology and security standards for the environment.

Our company can honor a specific commitment: remove the wreck as soon as possible, safely and to the highest environmental standards. To achieve this goal, we have provided the best expertise, the most advanced technological solutions, and unprecedented financial resources. In three weeks, we will be ready to tow the Concordia Giglio Island, in a time period that has statistically the most favorable weather and sea conditions. Given this delay, the only solution is the transport of the wreck in a place that is fully equipped for removal with the highest environmental standards.

For Costa Cruises CEO Michael Thamm : "Until now, all technical decisions were approved Costa Cruises correct - the choice and the sale of the removal project in Titan / Micoperi, rotation in September We believe. we deserve the confidence of the Italian authorities for the finals. the only purpose for which we are working is to finish this project in the best way possible. the positive opinion expressed by 17 ministries and public authorities of the 19 who have been called to give their technical assessments today to the Conference of services reassures us about the validity of the choice of Costa Cruises for the project of Genoa. the Concordia project remains unchanged and it is consistent with that presented to the Conference of services there are two years, which provided the towed to an Italian port with a dry dismantling, docks and facilities. Piombino is not a viable alternative because of delays in the port infrastructure construction operations. We are convinced that the Council of Ministers, which is now expected to take a final decision will positively assess the soundness of the project of Genoa. "

The project for the demolition and recycling of the wreck presented by the consortium Saipem / San Giorgio del Porto is the result of the evaluation of all proposals received by companies and Italian and foreign consortiums in the international process tender that was launched in December.
The choice of this project is the result of technical considerations on the validity of the proposed methodologies, reliability and expertise of businesses and the workforce employed, certainty and speed of results, the environmental sustainability of all the working phases.

The Concordia wreck removal project is the largest marine rescue in history. Currently, more than 350 technicians are working 24/7 to complete installation of the floats before afloat delivery phase. All 15 floats were installed starboard and now the technicians are working on the last 4 boxes that will be located on the port side before bailing out of the wreck and prepare it for towing. The timetable provides that the bailout could begin in mid-July, with the approval of the Observatory.

Thursday, June 26, 2014, the boxes are in Giglio :
The two boxes P14 and P15 arrived at Giglio, the barge "Conquest MB1" was again deployed its crane, installation services will continue.

Wednesday, June 25, 2014, the Conference of services vote "NO" in Genoa :

The Conference of services which met today in Rome (It) voted against towing the Costa Concordia in Genoa (It). Because no agreement was reached, the Italian Prime Minister and Council will decide the final destination of the Costa Concordia normally June 30.

President of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi, said that if the Cabinet vote the port of Genoa, it will dam by all human means to departure to the Ligurian Region.

According to the President of the Liguria Region Claudio BURLANDO, the Titan / Micoperi consortium will finish laying the caissons July 8, the bailout should start on 12 or 13 July, for a departure from the island of Giglio if weather conditions permit July 20. Provided it is the port of Genoa, but if the Council of Ministers gives Piombino dismantling, dates will they be respected ?

Wednesday, June 25, 2014, the slowdown in construction installing the boxes :

The barge "Conquest MB1" is positioned at the rear port side of the Costa Concordia with its folded rotating crane. The tug "Garibaldo" with its barge that carries P14 and P15 boxes is still in the bay of Porto Santo Stefano (It) awaiting permission to go to Giglio. This quiet laying around caissons could be due to waiting for the decision to be taken today at the meeting of the Conference of services and allocation of dismantling port "Genoa or Piombino, Piombino or Genoa ? "

In case the port of Genoa is confirmed, it is reasonable to think that by July 10 the last four caissons will be installed and the bailout will start for a scheduled departure on July 20. If this is the port of Piombino who wins the dismantling, knowing that the port will not be operational before September, the consortium Titan / Micoperi he will take the risk to refloat the Costa Concordia in July? The report, at least the slowdown raises last caissons would be understandable to avoid these four caissons not affect the stability of the whole.

Monday, June 23, 2014, news site www.leconcordia.fr :
The first boxes which will be installed are the P15 and P14, they are waiting to Porto Santo Stefano on a barge pulled by the tug Garibaldo.

Monday, June 23, 2014, press release Titan / Micoperi :

The 15 boxes have been successfully installed on the damaged starboard side of the Concordia.
The operation began in late April, with an average of 350 technicians hard working 24/7.
Now the barge "Conquest MB1" and its rotating crane will be positioned on the port side of the wreck to begin the installation operations of the last 4 boxes missing: P1, P2, P14 and P15.

Monday, June 23, 2014, Enrico Rossi wrote again to Matteo RENZI :

The president of the Tuscan region Enrico ROSSI appeal again to the President of the Italian Council Matteo RENZI through a two-page letter sent Thursday, June 19, 2014. In this letter, he describes all the reasons must that the choice of government is on the port of Piombino (it), less risky than the port of Genoa and its 5 days of sailing.

Enrico ROSSI as next to his letter to the Council Resolution of Ministers of 11 March 2013, which emphasized at the time the port of Piombino (It) for environmental reasons.

The Council of Ministers of the time stated that: "Franco Gabrielli the head of the Italian Civil Protection in charge of the withdrawal of the Costa Concordia is authorized to take all necessary measures to enable the Concordia transport in the port of Piombino for and dismantling it after all feasibility checks and in full collaboration with the Ministers of Environment Protection of the Territory and the Sea, and infrastructure and transport. This second road would bypass the island of Giglio from the North, pass between the islands of Monte Cristo and Pianosa happen between Elba and Corsica and Corsica and the island of Capraia (It) as on the previous drive to the port of Genoa.

Island of Elba in turn could serve as a refuge in case the weather would deteriorate.

Monday, June 16, 2014, the Costa Concordia starting between July 13 and August 8, 2014 :

The meeting of the Conference of services to study additional documents provided by Costa Cruises was held in Rome today. It has been defined a period for the start of the Costa Concordia Giglio Island, and this, thanks to the Ispra, from July 13 to August 8, after this period allows accurate knowledge of the waves statistics not exceed 2 meters and this along the entire route of the convoy.

Costa Cruises documents leave little space and credibility to the port of Piombino, but the Conference of services does not completely rule this place of dismantling it and if Costa Concordia Giglio does not leave as of August 8, 2014 .

In this case, the departure of the Costa Concordia could not do before September 2014, and from there the president of the Tuscan region the port of Piombino was ready. But is there a company that is ISO 30000 qualified? Only standard recognized by the European Union for a company to dismantle such a vessel.

The Conference of services meets at a first meeting on 25 June and will give the government the decision valid or not towing and dismantling at the port of Genoa (It). The Conference Services will not decide on the bailout itself to be given him by the Observatory monitoring which has already expressed to the rotation and the following file from the beginning of the case.

Sunday, June 15, 2014, press release Titan / Micoperi :
The thirteenth box starboard side, the S3 has been successfully installed.

Sunday, June 15, 2014, the draft of the Costa Concordia before and after the sinking :

Site readers the site www.leconcordia.fr  are wondering about the difference of the draft of the Costa Concordia shipwreck before and after the bailout. The Costa Concordia was sinking before a draft that is to say the submerged part, distinguished by the color blue waterline to 8 meters.

At the bailout in the coming days, the weight of 30 boxes and the water will remain inside will increase its weight and carry the 45 000 tonnes to around 65 000 tonnes, which will increase the submerged part and therefore Draught rising to around 18.50 meters. Pictured below the yellow line gives you an overview of the party will remain under water for towing.

Depending on such things as the removal on site of some of the furniture, draining the inland water or another, the draft may be lower, but it should not fall below 14 meters.

A draft will raise a significant advantage over the drop in air draft, that is to say the upper part of the ship that will be smaller and less risk-taking wind and prevent the Costa Concordia is too important holiday during towing, cottage could do it again switch.

In normal navigation, propulsion of a ship allows it to avoid this problem and ballasts rebalance the ship. In the case of the Costa Concordia there is no propulsion, no ballasts because the engines are stopped and that there is more power to manage ballast.

Saturday, June 14, 2014, press release, Costa Cruises and Titan / Micoperi :

The Italian Government fixed the date of 26 June !

At the same time the island of Giglio more than 370 technicians are working 24/7 to complete the installation phase of the floats. Currently, 12 floats were positioned on the starboard side of the Concordia, 3 others remain to be installed on this side and four on the port side to reach the total of 30 required for afloat delivery phase.
Alongside engineering activities, monitoring of the environment is also underway.

Friday, June 13, 2014, will be dismantled how the Costa Concordia in Genoa (It) :

The trade journal in maritime information "The Medi Telegraph" reveals part of a document they have in their possession! How will be dismantled the Costa Concordia in Genoa, this 59-page document which is at present not yet formalized concerns 4 phases :

Phase 1, the Costa Concordia arrived in the port of Voltri at Pier No. 4. Then the Costa Concordia after complete security layout, will be emptied of all its contents from the highest bridge in the lower deck (excluding water ). The materials will be packed directly on the Costa Concordia and discharged as and extent of their recovery and stored in a warehouse at the port of Voltri pending a transfer to places of destruction or recycling. In fact, the ship will serve as a working area to avoid as much as possible the movement of waste on the waterfront.

Phase 2, it is to divide the vessel into three zones bow, the middle and the stern and this the highest bridge deck 4. Two cranes will be installed on the platform and two others on the ship directly. The cutting of metallic materials can begin, they will be packaged in 1.65 m block and a weight of two tons is representing 30,000 tonnes. The entire block is estimated at 15 000 units that will be loaded in loans from containers for recycling.

Phase 3, will tow the rest of the shell which just measure the time 264 meters long (after cutting of the bow) in a basin which measures 267 meters it to a width of 40 meters, the 30 floats boxes have been removed beforehand. A bumper system will be placed at the rear of the hull of the Costa Concordia to be able to push it into the dry dock. Then the water drain work that remains inside and all food will begin, taking care that nothing can escape from the shell. Water will be pumped and donated in tanks that will be on a barge next to the Costa Concordia. The sludge will be removed manually for it before sending in this confined space the staff, it will conduct an analysis to define the atmospheric oxygen and dangerous gases.

Phase 4, consists in cutting the shell extending from the platform (bridge 4) to the keel of the ship with the help of two cranes a 10 tons and the other of 40 tons. The amount of scrap is estimated at 20 000 tonnes, the parts that contain oily residues will be flushed and cleaned before cutting.

The scrap will be transported by container in a foundry in the region.

According to the newspaper La nazione, Luigi Merlo President of the Port of Genoa said at a public meeting : "The Piombino project for the elimination of Concordia was judged by Costa and officials totally inadequate from the standpoint technique. Genoa is already equipped and organized, everyone should simply thank the fact that if the probable end of the Costa Concordia is in Italy, it will be thanks to Genoa. "

Lukas tug arrives at Giglio with the barge that carries S3 box. The S4 box is nearing completion of installation.

Thursday, June 12, 2014, the controversy between Rossi and GABRIELLE continues :

According to Reuters, President of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi said he did not agree with the Commissioner that the Government Franco Gabrielli announced on an Italian radio that the road that borrow the Concordia is the most polluted in Europe : "the argument that the route will take the Concordia to go to Genoa is one of the most polluted by oil spills, and to say that the convoy can also clean this stretch of sea is in bad taste like a bad joke, it's true when politics can all !

The precautionary principle is also present in European law the same as GABRIELLI invokes in his interview. We must do everything to stay away from this road for the protection of the marine environment of the archipelago and the whale sanctuary. If in September the port of Piombino, as expected, will be ready, there is no reason to take five times more likely to carry the ship in Genoa, which is about 200 miles and takes more than 5 days of sailing. If, however, Piombino is not ready, then it will be fair to carefully review the risks and measures for the transport of the wreck in Genoa in order to avoid remaining another year in Giglio. "

Yes, but it forgets to tell the president of the Tuscan region is in September when there will be even less likely to have five days of good weather and calm sea in July when.

This morning began laying the S4 box on the starboard side of the Costa Concordia.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014, press release, Costa Cruises and Titan / Micoperi :

Yesterday, the first meeting of the Conference of services took place in Rome at the headquarters of Civil Protection, chaired by the Commissioner for the emergency Concordia, Franco Gabrielli, was examined as it has been deliberated in Cabinet Italian project presented by Costa Cruises for the transport of Concordia Giglio island to the port of Genoa for its dismantling developed by the consortium of two companies Saipem-San Giorgio del Porto.

Because of the many integrations produced in the last days by Costa and additional documents requests put forward by the government and authorities, the Commissioner will ask the Cabinet an additional ten days after the date initially limit was set to 16 June for a discussion further the project.

The administrations concerned, "the municipality of the island of Giglio, the province of Grosseto in Tuscany region, Tuscany Regional Agency of Environment (Arpat), the health authorities of Grosseto, the Municipality and the Province of Genoa, Liguria region, the regional Agency for the Ligurian environment (Arpal), the port Authority of Genoa, the ministries of the Interior, environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Health, Culture, Ispra, the Higher Institute of Health and customs "all expressed the need for more time to analyze the project in detail, particularly as regards risk assessment and measures proposed mitigation.

If the Commissioner's application is accepted by the Government, the next meeting of the Conference of Services will be on June 16 for a further exchange of technical elements that are yet to be provided, then go to the date of the Conference decision - to be specified by the Council of Ministers - a complete set of permits, authorizations and regulations.

Meanwhile, operations to the island of Giglio progressing 24/7 with 360 technicians at work. Currently 11 floats were installed on the starboard side of the wreck, there are still 4 to be positioned on the starboard side and 4 on the port side, reaching the total of 30 required to bail out the wreckage. Monitoring of sea water environment is still ongoing, and as confirmed by the representative of the Tuscan regional environment agency to the meeting date, no abnormality is recorded.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014, report of the validation of the port to 26 June :

The date of June 16, which was to deliver the decision on the validation of the port and the company that will dismantle the Costa Concordia has been postponed to June 26.

This report was endorsed at the request of Commissioner Franco Gabrielli government yesterday in Rome at a meeting where all the parties were present (the municipality of Giglio, Province of Grosseto, Tuscany region, the Arpat of Grosseto, the municipality and the province of Genoa, Liguria region, Arpal, the port Authority of Genoa, the ministries of Interior, Environment, Land Protection and the Sea, Infrastructure and of Transport, the activity of the cultural heritage, health, Ispra, National Institute of health and Customs).

The reasons for this report is that policymakers want to have more time to analyze the record provided by Costa Cruises for transport, securing the maritime areas, certifications and amenities of the proposed Port (Genoa) and other elements. It must also be able to study all possible scenarios on a trailer that will last at least 5 days, with an impressive number of ships that will frame the Costa Concordia. The institutions involved in this process want to leave anything to chance, knowing that in case of environmental disaster all eyes will be on them.

Monday, June 9, 2014, press release Titan / Micoperi :

Laying the S15 box is closed. The number of cells placed on the starboard side is 11/15.

Monday, June 9, 2014, can the controversy Concordia towing Genoa also affect France ?

The France did she the right and duty to worry about the passage of the Costa Concordia between Cape Corsica and the Italian island of Capraia! Yes because in this passage the two islands are separated by a distance of 31 km, and from the information we have the Costa Concordia convoy will pass 10 km from the island of Capraia and therefore 21 km of Cap Corse and the nature reserve of Finocchiarola Islands, created June 29, 1987 for the protection of a species endemic to the Mediterranean "Audouin".

Other birds are present on this small archipelago like the crested Cormorant, Gull leucophé or various types of warblers. Certainly in high places and the French Ministry of the Environment questions can be felt or even questions to the various stakeholders in the towing of Concordia and the Italian State. The associations of the Corsican coast defenses, they, will soon move and be heard. Of course the convoy will pass on the Italian maritime part, but pollution has no boundaries! When I say move the Corsican press it begins to do so.

Maybe the idea of Vanguard is not as dangerous as that for the marine ecosystem, placing the same waste recovery means for towing and to go to the same port that of Genoa, but faster and with a sinking minor risk. The route between the island of Giglio and Genoa is 2000 miles or 370 km, the convoy speed is 2.5 knots or 4.5 km / h for a period of 5 days if all goes well. The weather must be perfect on "five days" !!!

While in Italy the war between the two ports (Piombino and Genova) continues through about Commissioner Franco Gabrielli government and the President of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi, who still claims his coming of Concordia in Piombino! Maybe this also is not a bad idea, a sea day instead of five, but the port will not be completed at Concordia towing the end of July. So how do we do ? Cross your fingers and hope that Mr. Concordia still have the strength to make a few kilometers before drawing his last Inchino (reverence).

Saturday, June 7, 2014, the route of the convoy of the Costa Concordia :
With Google Earth whom I thank, I invite you to discover the course proposed by Costa Cruises for the Costa Concordia convoy. The convoy bypasses the marine and terrestrial park of the Tuscan Archipelago with its seven islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea, Capraia, Elba, Giannutri, Giglio, Gorgona, Montecristo, Pianosa. The marine fauna and flora are very present and very rare for certain species therefore protected: starfish, coral, Posidonia, sea anemones, there are also dolphins, dusky groupers, moon-fish , sperm whales, fin whales, there would also present the Mediterranean monk seal, but rarely amount.

Saturday, June 7, 2014, part of the report of Costa Cruises :

Some elements of the report has provided Costa Cruises to the study commission !

During the transfer of Concordia in Genoa Release the inner should occur in the sea of substances and products found in and hydrocarbons. The environmental impact will be minor, temporary and insignificant. These products come out through the windows and damaged areas of the ship.

The project provides for positioning an absorbent boom system that will be drawn by two trailers and this entire trip between the island of Giglio and the port of Genoa. It will also set up an oil skimmer that will also be pulled by tugboat. A fishing net will be installed on the rear of the Concordia, held taut by two specialized vessels that operation. They recover all materials that could fall Concordia.

The route of Concordia convoy will leave the island of Giglio, it will bypass the island from the south, it will increase to 10 km from the island of Giannutri, run along Corsica at a distance of 25 km, and then go off Capraia island 10 km and take the direction of Genoa. This route was chosen for its low marine traffic and the fact that there is no marine protected areas. The trip will not occur if the days provided for towing, there are winds of over 15 knots and waves over 2 meters high.

Costa Cruises tackles the subject of the port of Piombino in his report, they say that the port of Piombino will not be operational before the end of September, when more it does not have certificates to carry out such a site and it does there is not even a tank farm to store scrap. Finally, the cost of the port of Piombino is higher than that of Genoa.

Saturday, June 7, 2014, the war of ports continues :

As expected the employees of the company Luchini demonstrated yesterday Friday on the construction site of the future platform that could accommodate the Costa Concordia for its dismantling. Work proceed quickly, but the wharf with a length of 1200 meters will not be operational before September.

Regarding the long dry dock of 350 meters and a depth of 20 meters, dredging (in 2 stages July and August) and wharf construction will start only on 10 July. Yet companies are working 20 hours on 24, and that, for three months, but work if all goes well will not be completed before the end of September. For the record the Concordia will be refloated July 20 and immediate departure towards dismantling port is planned.

The cost of this work largely financed by the Tuscan region is about 102 million euros, which told the president of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi : "its still open games and Tuscany will have something to say at the conference of 16 June. Piombino is the most reasonable solution and the most respectful of the environment. the games are still open as reflected in the positions taken by various politicians. on the one hand, there are the senators Democratic elected party in Tuscany, Rosa Maria Di Giorgi and Marco Filippi, according to which the choice of the port of Piombino to dismantle the Costa Concordia to be took into account. the environmental risk associated with the transfer of the ship is the only viable solution seems Piombino . "

For his part the President of the Liguria Region, Claudio Burlando said : "If the ship can float and can be moved which, according to forecasts by Costa Cruises, is expected to take place around July 20, the nearest port of Giglio will not be ready. the port of Genoa can not be invalidated only in relation to its proximity, we also see the skill, professionalism, equipment and space. There will be no problem in transportation, even if you walk through the Sanctuary of cetaceans. Those who recover the wreckage ensure that there is no risk of pollution! I do not want a clash between the Italian ports which could lead to transfer vessel in Turkey. "

Friday, June 6, 2014, the Archbishop of Genoa Declaration :
The Archbishop of Genoa and president of the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference) Angelo Bagnasco is also pleased him to be come the Costa Concordia in Genoa (It) : "I hope that Genoa will have this opportunity and that this does not create divisions of all kinds. We have always hoped and prayed that this important work comes in the port of Genoa, now it seems that things are going in this direction. this is an opportunity that will bring work for several years to hundreds of workers. "

Friday, June 6, 2014, press release Titan / Micoperi :
The installation of the floats for the bailout move quickly to the island of Giglio. With the starboard float installation S18 (S13 old who was brought back to Genoa after repair), the number of installed floats reached 9 out of 19 required before the bail (15 on the starboard side, four on the port side to reach the total of 30). Titan Micoperi technicians have now planned to continue installing the S14 float in the coming days on receipt of the necessary authorizations of the Observatory. Under the current schedule, they plan completed by the bailout and thus the elimination of the wreck of the island of Giglio at the end of July, after obtaining the necessary authorizations from the competent authorities.

Thursday, June 5, 2014, Carnival is who should decide what the Concordia Italian port must be dismantled :
The Minister of the Environment Italian Gianluca Galletti gave its opinion (see below) on the fact that the Costa Concordia was dismantled in Genoa. He does not want the war between Piombino and Genoa Carnival decided to transport the Costa Concordia in Turkey. It also states that this is not the Italian government to take a decision on the location of dismantling the risk of liability of the Italian State. That's a message sent to employees of Lucchini. It should be noted that the Carnival name replaces the name of Costa Cruises in the case of decisions relating to transport and decommissioning :

"It would be a mistake if the dismantling of Concordia became a war between the Italian ports. I see three risks, Carnival owner of the wreck could carry the ship in Turkey, or leave it where it is, or should the Italian State responsible for transport. the wreck of Costa Concordia is owned by Carnival, the company having its registered office in London is Carnival, which must decide in which Italian port it must be destroyed. the Italian government does not take responsibility a disaster caused by them, but it is right to want the economic benefits of eliminating remain in our country. Carnival has presented a plan to eliminate the port of Genoa. We will be very careful to ensure they took into account all the parameters for the environment during transport. "

Wednesday, June 4, 2014, the tension rises in Piombino (It) :
Today the unions FIM, FIOM, UILM and employees of the steel company "Lucchini" Piombino said they want the dismantling of the Costa Concordia, "Concordia Piombino or it will be chaos !" A demonstration is scheduled for next Friday.

A union representative said : "We'll see if the work of the dock for Concordia progressing rapidly The revival of the steel industry and the future of this territory have the opportunity to restart.."

Wednesday, June 4, 2014, the Minister of Environment confirms Genoa :
The Italian Minister of the Environment Gian Luca Galletti, confirmed to an Italian radio information dismantling of the Costa Concordia in Genoa : "Carnival is now proposing to dismantle the Concordia in Genoa, we received the report June 16, we will control them. additional steps to evaluate and give the necessary authorizations for towing. "

The minister always leaves some doubt on Turkey, but also the ecological risk towing the Costa Concordia in Genoa. The competent authorities (regions, civil protection, surveillance Observatory State) will meet on June 16 and will consider the report of Carnival and maintain their confidence in Titan / Micoperi consortium will be responsible for towing the Costa Concordia in Genoa ...

Wednesday, June 4, 2014, a heavy compensation for the non-use of Vanguard and confirmation of the port of Genoa :

According to the Dutch newspaper "AD.nl" Costa Cruises is expected to pay a very substantial sum (22 million euros?) To the Dutch company Dockwise, Royal Boskalis subsidiary Westminster NV, as compensation for the non-use of semi-submersible Vanguard.

Also according AD.nl Martijn Schuttevaer director of Royal Boskalis says : "The distance between the place of the accident and Genoa is weak Vanguard is not necessary, and they can use simple tug of the contract. rental stipulates that we should have been paid that Vanguard is used or not. " Laughed the director of Royal Boskalis emphasizes : "It is a heavy indemnity, even considerable, which bring us more than if we had intervened."

For the record rent for the use of the Vanguard was 30 million euros ! If Costa Cruises pays 22 million euros, the pressure from the Italian government will be very costly to insurance companies, in addition to € 100 million for decommissioning in Genoa instead of 40 million euros for Turkey.

Monday, June 2, 2014 :
Technicians have started this afternoon laying the box S18, S13 formerly.

Monday, June 2, 2014, several reports this morning :

The installation of the S5 cabinet is finished since yesterday afternoon, bringing to 8 the number of boxes installed to date ...
Former S13 box, became S18 is in the bay of Giglio pending his pose on the Costa Concordia.

President of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi, disputes the information circulating in the media and madness that it would represent to tow the Costa Concordia in Genoa (It). Enrico Rossi, the port of Piombino will be operational in September and will accommodate the ship for demolition. It also highlights the respect for the people of the Tuscany region for over two years is affected by the sinking and has the right to benefit from the economic windfall that represents such a project.

Sunday, June 1, 2014, the S13 box is back at Giglio :
Two important information this morning :

Friday, May 30, 2014, the GIN (Genoa Naval Industry) should dismantle the Costa Concordia :

This confirms that the GIN Group (Genoa Naval Industries) consisting of San Giorgio del Porto, T.Mariotti, CNM (Chantiers Naval Marseille), and the Italian company SAIPEM that will support the dismantling of the Costa Concordia in Port of Genoa (It), in collaboration with the Port authority of Genoa.

If the Marseille company CNM appears in the group's organization is the fact that the shipyard Marseille is the subsidiary and the even the greatest form No. 10 dry dock (dry dock) in Europe and one of the first in the world by the Italian GIN. Currently this work dry dock will revive the construction industry and repair of giant ships and may also dismantling (if the site of the Costa Concordia in Genoa takes place in the best conditions) to Marseille in the key to creating jobs in this sector.

Some details remain to be settled between Costa Cruises, insurers and GIN for signing the final contract. June 16 will be formalized information for a bailout expected in mid-July and a starting Giglio to Genoa on 20 July.

Friday, May 30, 2014, Genoa ecological risk ?
The Italian Government does not he take an ecological risk to tow the Costa Concordia in Genoa !

If one remembers in September 2013 (see article below), the consortium Titan Salvage / Micoperi and Costa Cruises had rented the Vanguard because they thought at the time that the risky hull from breaking if Costa Concordia was towed and not carry.

Environmental protection associations shout loudly that the Costa Concordia can not and must not be transported on the Vanguard (risk of spills of pollutants) but should not be towed elsewhere than the port piombino (It) to a maximum day at sea.

Same story with the President of the Tuscany Region Enrico ROSSI, claiming it dismantled in Piombino, which also save hundreds of jobs. It is certain that if Costa Concordia shipwreck would do it again in a place considered between 1000 and 5000 m depth would be extremely serious for the marine ecosystem and a heavy responsibility on the shoulders of the Italian government, but certainly not Costa Cruises will surely take the necessary steps to protect in this case ecological disaster.

The estimate was made at an average of 3 knots should be between 3 and 4 days at sea for the Costa Concordia convoy arrives in Genoa. Virtually an eternity when one is that the weather at sea is never 100% sure and can evolve quickly in the wrong direction. Piombino was the wisest decision and most logical.

The risk of a new wreck !

Even emptied of its furnishings and perhaps some of its pollutants, if not all the Costa Concordia there is a risk of sinking again! Without being a specialist I would say "Yes" for a simple reason was that the hull was originally built to withstand a certain pressure, a certain weight in its interior, not thousands of tons on its outer walls.

In a fixed position or in a short navigation maneuver, the shell will resist, but under the onslaught of the sea in calm water, the risk of this hull was damaged on its starboard side by rocks and sea assaults , crushed by the weight of the boxes lying on the port side and the weight of the ship itself likely to break up in transit.

Do not forget two important things, the first is the tension that has been exercised by the cables at the time of rotation and for several hours. Then sagging hull found in July 2013 (approximately 3m), while only 6 boxes had been installed on the port side to the rotation of the Costa Concordia.

We see the risk is great, view great to tow the Costa Concordia in Genoa.

Who will dismantle the Costa Concordia in Genoa !

First, there Fincantieri S.p.A., which built the Costa Concordia! But it may also be that this is the Genoese company San Giorgio del Porto and Mariotti, who owns the shipyard in Marseilles and had responded to the Costa Cruises to tender for France. These two Genoese companies have the expertise and logistical resources for this huge project, and that, in conditions of safety for people and the environment.

The date of towing !

On Sunday, July 20, 2014 to confirm.

Friday, May 30, 2014, the Italian press confirms Genoa :
The Italian press is beginning to confirm the announcement that the Costa Concordia will be much dismantled in Genoa (It), the decision was taken on Wednesday 28 May and will be formalized before June 16.

Thursday, May 29, 2014, the dismantling of Genoa port will (It) :
The WK transportation logistics site gives us important information, the same site that had the information first before the Costa Concordia transit on the Vanguard September 30, 2013 :

According to a source close to the case, the Costa Concordia will remain in Italy, in Genoa as it was in the air for some time.

It will not be transported to the Vanguard, but will be pulled by several tugs to travel the 280 km between the island of Giglio and Genoa. The Costa Concordia will be emptied of all its furniture directly on the island of Giglio to lighten its weight, then arrive in the port of Genoa will be cut horizontally bridge after bridge, it will avoid the possible pollution. For the hull will be locked in a dry dock and will be cut. The Italian Government should be satisfied with this wise decision, only the President of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi and Piombino employees must be very disappointed with this decision.

Also according to the WK transport logistics site, the cost would be 200 million euros, this amount also includes bonus maneuvers and destruction of hazardous waste, according to the European Waste Code (CER). 300 people will be employed on the dismantling site and for a period of 18 months.

Friday, May 23, 2014, controversy surrounding the departure of Costa Concordia Giglio :
While the pace of installation of caissons is accelerating, the controversy swells on the departure of the Costa Concordia Giglio : Minister of the Environment, Gian Luca Galletti said he would oppose any transport Costa Concordia elsewhere in an Italian port and also for environmental reasons on the Vanguard.

For his part the president of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi, threatening to block the Costa Concordia transport on the Vanguard with boats, again because of the dispersion of pollutants during transport, the fact that will 4m above the sea.

The mayor of the island of Giglio Sergio Ortelli he opposes rumors towing the Costa Concordia on the other side of the island Giglio Campese to be loaded on the Vanguard. If we add the environmental groups, the departure of the Costa Concordia Giglio Island will be very hectic.

Thursday, 15 May 2014, Greenpeace and WWF, the fear of a new sinking of the Costa Concordia :

Greenpeace and WWF, are concerned also the resistance of the structure of the Costa Concordia and the risk of major pollution if the vessel is not emptied of all liquid pollutants that still has to this day. For those of environmental groups, towing the Costa Concordia to the port of Genoa take at a speed of 1.5 knots (about 3 km / h) at least 4 days. The convoy happen in areas with protecting the sanctuary of cetaceans that have funds for the area between the islands of Giglio and Elba 1,000 meters deep, and from the island of Capraia 5,000 meters deep.

The associations have questioned in writing the bodies responsible for the withdrawal of the Costa Concordia, but they have received no response. They want a complete expertise of the ship's structure, the complete pumping of liquid pollutants that are still in the ship. For them the risk of a new sinking of Costa Concordia is real, and this time it will sink entirely with coffered and it can not be recovered. If the departure takes place in mid-July and the associations have not received security firm commitment to the environment, there is a good chance they take the decision to block the departure of Giglio Costa Concordia.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014, press release from the Italian Civil Protection of 7 May 2014 :
A technical problem occurred on May 6 on the first boxs mounted on the starboard side of the Concordia, causing a skid. At 6 am, the box (S13) has been reported in a horizontal position. He is currently in ballast water drain current that can cause an internal movement of the box, but the situation is under control by the technicians. The box is held in place by crane "Conquest MB1".

Engineers have checked the problem, that would be the voltage loss of one of the four channels connecting the box to the wreck which resulted in an imbalance, causing the box at an angle of 25 °. Thereafter, the pressure in this first rotation caused break of a second string with the corresponding hydraulic cylinder. This generates a second rotation of the box, to bring it to an angle of about 45 °.

The box is damaged and must be brought by the manufacturer for verification and the necessary repairs. Further verification by technicians Titan consortium - Micoperi to assess the exact damage also reported in the adjacent area (S12), caused by contact with the S13 during its rotation is in court. The accident therefore move a few days the assembly operations of the other boxes, which will resume once the crane "MB1 Conquest" will be available again.

The consortium Titan - Micoperi received approval from Concordia monitoring observatory for installing all the boxes on the starboard side of the wreck. The green light came after he received and evaluated the documentation provided by the technicians of Titan - Micropori.

The Observatory has however reiterated the wish of the presentation - to be held as soon as possible - the operational action plan for sanitation, where possible, inland waters and analysis hazard risk scenarios on 'environment. These documents are also to implement all possible measures to prevent and mitigate risk, and ensure maximum safety of the operators involved in the ship's suppression activities.

Regarding the method of operation, after completion of the installation of 15 boxes on the right side of the ship and the remaining four on the left side (step WP7), the wreck will be ready to bailout (phase WP8 ). The bailout phase shall be conducted through the slow and controlled drain the pressure of 30 boxes positioned on both sides of the wreck. After this step, the site will be restored through elimination of debris on the seabed, the equipment used in the operation will be removed and the beginning of all activities necessary for the biological recovery of the seabed.

At the moment we are still awaiting the choice of the port of destination and the mode of transport of the wreck.

It is confirmed it will be possible to define more precisely the timing of operations to measure as work proceeds on Giglio and the Observatory - based on the documentation submitted by Costa - give the necessary approvals and issue prescriptions.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014, Sebastiano Venier "This is a real ecological bomb" :
The Italian environmental association "Legambiente" as the Observatory monitoring is concerned the risk of pollutant spills as the oil remaining inside the Costa Concordia in the sea at the time of the bailout, but especially transport ship . The association also asks guarantees on data Costa Cruises and Titan / Micoperi consortium, according to which there is no need for a specific intervention for the transport of the Costa Concordia.

Sebastiano Venier, head of Legambiente : "This decision of Costa seems to contrast with the theories hitherto assumed by many, the need to empty the tanks in advance. We are perplexed and worried, and for that, we associate the Observatory for the recovery of the Costa Concordia and we ask for more guarantees, reconnaissance using robots for precise monitoring of the situation and to make an accurate assessment to continue the operation. It is important to remember that are still within the more than 100 tons of fuel vessel that has not been possible to suck in the initial drain and is now mixed with other pollutants. It is an ecological time bomb which must be handled with care and competence. "

Monday, May 12, 2014, meeting in Florence (It) :
The meeting was held in Florence (It) today confirmed the about the engineer Franco Costa Cruises Porcellacchia at the meeting on Saturday 10 May at Giglio (It), the Costa Concordia will not leave the Giglio island before mid-July 2014 (between 18 and 20 July).

This meeting has been imposed by the president of the Maria Sargentini Monitoring Observatory, after the accident of the box S13 : "We asked for a survey to assess the accident happened, the investigation is still ongoing and require a change in the appropriate permissions for the installation of the boxes. "

The President also asked the representatives of Costa Crociere what measures would be taken to ensure the integrity of the hull when the ship towing. Costa Cruises said that robots would be sent for accurate monitoring of fuel tanks and avoid the oil spill in the sea when towing the Costa Concordia.

As regards the water which is inside the vessel, it is estimated at between 140 and 159 000 cubic meters. The plan provides for the pumping 4000 cubic meters in two very specific places of the bridge "C", the stern and the bow. These two places concentrate a large amount of pollutants such as phthalates in particular hydrocarbons that would upset the ecosystem inevitable when domestic water would mix with external water on Recovery of the Costa Concordia. But keeping the weight necessary to balance the ship's hull.
The meeting did we not learn more about the final destination of the Costa Concordia.

Engineering Costa Cruises pace laying caissons will not slow down following the incident of the box S13, and for him the Costa Concordia will leave his position on the island of Giglio in mid-July : "Our forecasts on the bailout were revised and moved to mid-July, unless unforeseen circumstances. "

Monday, May 12 is planned a survey to understand the exact reasons for the accident on the box S13 and the impact on the work of the withdrawal of the Costa Concordia. The president of the Observatory also wanted to know how will be removed fuel and 2,600 tons of polluted water that is still in the ship. These liquids could not be pumped at the time that the ship was lying.

For the reasons of the accident of S13 subwoofer, there would be no human responsibility, only a bag of grout (cement), which was under the ship's keel and that for some reason would have fallen on the chain box S13.

Maria Sargentini pointed out that at the meeting tomorrow in Florence new information is available, especially that concerning the port of destination of the Costa Concordia and removal of pollutants ...

Thursday, May 8, 2014, press release "NGO Shipbreaking Platform" :
Brussels May 6, 2014 - The platform "NGO Shipbreaking Platform", a global coalition of 19 environmental associations, human rights and labor rights organizations in the demolition of pollutants and dangerous ships, sent a letter to the Italian Minister of the Environment to require security on the dismantling of the Costa Concordia cruise ship that ran aground and in accordance with Italian law and European law, in particular the EU framework directive on waste and the regulation on ship recycling in the EU. The platform joins Greenpeace Italy, Legambiente and WWF Italy to express their concerns about the conditions in which the dismantling of the ship will take place and corroborates the previous statements of the Italian NGO.

"The Italian government must apply the best techniques possible to minimize environmental risks during towing and dismantling process. Minimizing environmental risks can not be subject to financial and other interests and it is the responsibility of governments to avoid harming the environment and public health." Said Patrizia Heidegger, Executive Director for shipbreaking "NGO Shipbreaking Platform."

The platform calls for the Italian Environment Minister to ensure that the shipowner and the insurer will choose the final destination most suited for the wreck. The decision must be based on an environmental impact assessment, the results should be made available to the public. The EIA (Environmental Investigation Agency) must be conducted on the basis of proximity and principles of self-sufficiency, which are fundamental principles of European waste law.

The platform recommends that the wrecked cruise ship to be towed to the nearest port possible to minimize the release of polluted water into the sea, which could contaminate the specially protected areas, such as the Pelagos Sanctuary.

The ship recycling facility chosen must comply with all national and European laws governing waste management and environmental protection. The NGOs ask that the Italian Ministry of the Environment to monitor the company in charge of dismantling the Costa Concordia to ensure that the environment and public health are protected throughout the period of dismantling operations, including handling, transport and the elimination of all hazardous waste that will be produced. The dismantling of the Costa Concordia is an opportunity to create jobs in waste management and recycling and excel in recycling safe and clean ships.

Currently, the box is held in this position with the support of the crane Conquest MB1.

Technicians conduct emptying operations of ballast water box. These operations can cause an imbalance of the box because of the internal circulation of water. These movements are to be considered, until the box is completely emptied.

The situation is now under control. The box will be transported to a shipyard for technical assessments and repairs.

The installation of the remaining floats resume when the crane Conquest MB1 becomes available, this to say after the box S13 is loaded on the barge and its departure from the island of Giglio to Genoa. The repositioning of the box S13 will therefore be later. The next step involves positioning the box S10 as soon as possible. Monday, May 5, 2014, the sinking of the Costa Concordia get thee to cost "$ 2 billion" ?

The French newspaper "Echoes" this Sunday, May 4 suggests that the insurer Allianz Global Corporate & Speciality, covering the disaster of the sinking of Costa Concordia said the accident has so far cost more than 1.6 billion dollars, and some experts say the figure of $ 2 billion could be reached.

The paper takes the example Exxon Valdez that American oil that ran aground in 1989 on the coast of Alaska, which cost him $ 1.6 billion. The newspaper also speaks of the 3 600 tonnes of contaminated fuel and liquids that still find in the Costa Concordia as the Italian association of environmental protection "Legambiente" speaks it that 100 tons of heavy fuel oil.

Of course, whatever the exact amount of pollutants must not underestimate the possible pollution which would have disastrous consequences on the marine environment and a significant cost that would further add a little more note. Do not forget also that a second sinking of Costa Concordia is seen as a disgrace to the Italian people, as well as The parbuckling Projetct would be unique in the annals !! Fingers crossed we do not sum there.

Monday, May 5, 2014, "100 tons of heavy fuel oil" still inside the Costa Concordia ?
The Italian association of environmental protection "Legambiente" by the voice of one of its leaders Sebastiano Venneri said that according to information it has "100 tons of heavy fuel oil" would always be inside the Costa Concordia . We must add other products pollutants like oil and various chemicals used in the maintenance of the ship.

For the association the best solution would be to tow the vessel to the nearest port "Piombino, Genoa or Civitavecchia," but in no way out of the water and place it on a platform such as Vanguard. The solution of the Vanguard would be a major risk to the environment because the liquids that are inside would flow automatically into the sea.
