Following the accident which occurred in the

The press conference was held in Rome on 10 January 2014, in the presence of the Commissioner to the government for withdrawal of Concordia Franco Gabrielli, the Italian Environment Minister Andrea Orlando, the CEO of Costa Cruises Michael Thamm and coordinator and project engineer Franco Porcellacchia kidnapping, was an opportunity for the media to know the important next steps of the project.
After the success of parbuckling which took place on 17 September 2013, the next goal is now the bailout Concordia before the summer of 2014 so it will be ready for transportation to the port of final destination.
From a technical standpoint, the operations are underway in Livorno to complete the development of the 15 floats that will be installed on the starboard side, and the other 4 remaining to be installed on the port side. The float installation is sensitive to weather operation, it is scheduled to begin in April 2014. Before that, the technicians will work on the starboard side of the refurbishment to create a flat surface on areas damaged to allow floats to align properly.
Regarding the port of final destination, a tendering process was initiated by Costa Cruises in agreement with the Italian authorities, through the company London Offshore Consultants (LOC). The choice will be facilities to dismantle and recycle the wreck using a method that provides the best solution in terms of safety and outcome, environmental and safety standards for workers, according to the law national and international.
Beyond the initial interest, the tender was sent to 13 companies and organizations representing 6 countries: Italy, France (Marseille), United Kingdom, Norway, Turkey and China. Italy is represented by the ports of Piombino, Civitavecchia, Genoa and Palermo.
Costa Cruises is currently waiting to receive the tender documents of these candidates, the final decision will be known in the port during the month of March 2014.
